Goal

Recovering a lost administrator password for an Enterprise application.

Solution

There is no 'back-door' access to an Enterprise application.  The only way to recover a lost password is by another user who has sufficient permissions resetting the password in the Security module.
This can be done as follows:

  1. Open the APPLICATION module and select NAVIGATE -> SECURITY.

  2. Select MAINTAIN USERS and select the user in question.

  3. Click on the CHANGE PASSWORD button and type in the new password,  and confirm the new password.

  4. Click OK, click SAVE and close the security module.

It may be possible to recover a password that was known in the past, by restoring the entire application from backup.  The passwords are extracted encrypted along with a security extract.  However, to load the security extract into the new version, the load still needs to be run by a user with sufficient rights.
Another way would be to restore from backup and re-do all the changes in the backup of the application since the backup was taken.

To avoid this problem it is advisable that at least two different user IDs exist with full administrative rights to the application.
