      md5 Checksums

      October 2010

      Section 1: Overview
Section 2: Download md5 checksum results from Oracle
      Section 3: Compare md5 checksums
Section 4: Disk overview, to be used when corrupted files are found
      Section 1: Overview

After staging the Rapid Install software with the adautostg.pl script or downloading the Rapid Install software from Oracle Electronic Delivery, the md5 checksums for the staged directory structure can be used to validate the software integrity. Do this by running the md5sum program against the stage area using the oracle created checksum file. This is not an official development document - this procedure was performed/tested using the downloadable Rapidwiz media.

Section 2: Download md5 checksum results from Oracle

Download the md5 checksum results from Oracle as posted below into a local file, for example md5sum_.txt.

The attached files contain the md5 checksum results for every R12.1.1 release. Download the file corresponding to the used release and platform. The md5 checksum has been created without the startCD as it is often being updated, the checksum for the startCD's can be tested separately.

      Release 12.1.1 Checksums currently available:
      R12.1.1 - Windows
      R12.1.1 - IBM AIX
      R12.1.2 - Linux on IBM System z
      R12.1.1 - Linux 32-bit
      R12.1.1 - Linux 64-bit
      R12.1.1 - Solaris Sparc 64-Bit
      R12.1.1 - HP_UX
      R12.1.1 - HP_UX Itanium
      Release 12.1.x StartCD Checksums:
      R12.1.1 startCD - Version 12.1.1.9
      R12.1.1 startCD - Version 12.1.1.10
      R12.1.1 startCD - Version 12.1.1.11
R12.1.2 startCD (Linux on IBM System z only) - Version 12.1.1.12.ZLINUX

      Section 3: Compare md5 checksums

Compare the Stage with the md5sums downloaded from Oracle (md5sum_.txt). There should not be any FAILED entry in the output. If a FAILED entrie was found, then the stage area was not created successfully. The stage have to be re-created for every component indicating differences (FAILED).

Note: The following example assumes the stage exists in /u01 for Unix and Linux, or F:\ for Windows customers.
Execute the following example commands to check stage using the the md5 checksums

      On Unix/Linux:
Install the md5sum utility for your platform if md5sum is not present on your system. If md5sum is not available from your OS Vendor for your OS version (for example HP 11.0), download and install the coreutils package from gnu.org .
      $ cd /u01/StageR12
      $ md5sum --check md5sum_Linux32.txt > md5sum_result.txt

      On Windows:
MKS Toolkit or cygwin needs to be installed to be able to use mdm5sum.
      F:\> cd StageR12
      F:\StageR12> md5sum --check md5sum_Windows.txt > md5sum_result.txt

Note: The md5 checksum will validate the entire stage area and may take 10 minutes or more depending on hardware resources and system load.
Section 4: Disk overview, to be used when corrupted files are found

When a corrupted file is found the following can be used to identify which part needs to be re-downloaded from edelivery.

      Release 12.1.1 Disk overview:
      R12.1.1 - Windows
      R12.1.1 - IBM AIX
      R12.1.2 - Linux on IBM System z
      R12.1.1 - Linux 32-bit
      R12.1.1 - Linux 64-bit
      R12.1.1 - Solaris Sparc 64-Bit

      (5) \Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\bin\validate.bat
      Goal
This article aims to help users use various troubleshooting tools to validate or troubleshoot an installation of Oracle EPM 11.1.2.0. or 11.1.2.1
      Solution
      (1) A new troubleshooting tool introduced in Oracle EPM 11.1.2.1 is \Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\bin\ziplogs.bat|.sh file. The output of this is generated in \Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\diagnostics\ziplogs\EPM_logs__11.1.2.1.0.zip

      (2) Oracle Configuration Manager (OCM) is an advanced tool which collects and evaluates settings from configuration files (but not Hyperion Registry) and stores them in a central database administered by Oracle. It was first introduced into EPM in version 11.1.2.0

      (3) Remote Desktop Assistant (RDA) collects and zips up a large amount of information concerning the software and hardware environments of Oracle products. If Perl 5.1 or later is installed on the computer and accessible from the command line (test: perl -version), then run: \Oracle\Middleware\ohs\rda\rda.cmd from the command line to access the RDA tool. Alternately, precompiled RDA executables are available for several platforms.

      (4) Configuration settings have been moved from configuration files to a database repository associated with Shared Services. These may be extracted to an HTML formatted file by running \Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\bin\epmsys_registry.bat|.sh without parameters from the command line. The output is generated to file \Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\diagnostics\reports\registry.html The username/login/jdbc URL for the Hyperion/HSS registry are kept in \Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\config\foundation\11.1.2.0\reg.properties file.

      (5) A much enhanced validation tool is available in \Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\bin\validate.bat. In EPM 11.1.2.1 the output files are of the form \Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\diagnostics\reports\instance_report_20YYMMDD_######.html (where YY is the year, MM is the month, DD is the day, and ###### is a unique integer). It also runs the tool under (1) and gives the output of that tool.

      (6) Individual log files may be found in subdirectories under (those 'starred' are not collected by ziplogs):
      \Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\EPMSystem\servers\\logs *
      \Oracle\Middleware\logs *
      \Oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3 *

      (7) Some debug tools (*) can be activated if under http://:19000/workspace/index.jsp > Navigate > Administration > Workspace Server Settings > Client Debug Enabled: is set to Yes (then click 'OK' button, close all browser windows, and restart browser).

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      Applies to:
Oracle Net Services - Version: 11.1.0.6.0 and later [Release: 11.1 and later ]
Information in this document applies to any platform.
      Checked for relevance on 14-MAY-2010.

The issue documented here has been resolved in an enhancement request since the original writing. Please refer to the notes below.
      Symptoms
Connecting from an 11.1.0.x client using the HOSTNAME adapter fails with the error:
      ORA-12504: TNS:listener was not given the SERVICE_NAME in CONNECT_DATA

However, the same client connection works fine using the LDAP, TNSNAMES, or EZCONNECT methods.

      Cause
From 11g onwards, the feature of using the hostname provided in the /etc/hosts file, as the alias / service name has been changed. As a result, the user will have to provide the service name while connecting OR configure the target listener with a default service name:

This was justified by Bug.6374523 "CAN NOT USE HOSTNAME NAMING METHOD FROM 11G DATABASE" (which was closed as not a bug).

IMPORTANT NOTE: This issue was resolved by way of an enhancement request. The issue was handled in unpublished BUG 9271246 Abstract: REINTRODUCE DEPRECATED 10G EZCONNECT FUNCTIONALITY TO 11G.
There are interim patches available for multiple platforms on My Oracle Support. The patch will restore the functionality to pre-11g behavior.

Further clarification from the bug as to why there is a difference between 10g and 11g:

While connecting when you issue the following :
      CONNECT username@alias

We get the following results depending on the version:

10g working case (when hostname would be used as the default service) -->
      - The 'alias' gets resolved using the hostname adapter to the respective host.
      - HOWEVER, you have not specified the service name, so the alias is itself used as the service name and the connect string generated has the service name filled up with the alias you specified.
      - This string goes to the listener and the connection is fine.

11g non-working case (when the hostname cannot be used as the default service and the listener's default service is expected to be used) -->
      - The 'alias' gets resolved using the hostname adapter to the respective host.
      - HOWEVER, you have not specified the service name, so the alias is not used as the service name, and the service name is left blank in the connect string generated (the reason being is that we expect the listener to use the default service configured at its end, such as older versions used to do).
      - This string with the "blank" service name goes to the listener and the ORA-12504 error is thrown, correctly indicating that the listener is not configured with the default service name.

      Solution
With 11g, the way the HOSTNAME adapter is used has changed. You now have to use the hostname adapter as per the Net Services Administrator's guide.

**See IMPORTANT NOTE above. An enhancement request has been worked and a patch is available that will return the HOSTNAME adapter to pre-11g behavior.

      Reference
The following is taken from the Oracle Database Net Services Reference, 11g Release 1 (11.1), Part Number B28317-02 -- Chapter 7, Oracle Net Listener Parameters (listener.ora) :

      "7.2.4.3 DEFAULT_SERVICE_listener_name

      Purpose
Use the DEFAULT_SERVICE_listener_name parameter to enable users to connect to the database without having to specify a service name from client side.

In Oracle Database 11g, when a client tries to connect to the database the connection request passes through the listener. The listener may be servicing several different databases. If a service name is configured in this parameter, users may not necessarily need to specify a service name in the connect syntax. If a user specifies a service name, the listener will connect the user to that specific database, otherwise the listener will connect to the service name specified by the DEFAULT_SERVICE_listener_name parameter.

      See Also:
Oracle Database Net Services Administrator's Guide for more information about the easy connect naming method

      Default
There is no default value for the DEFAULT_SERVICE_listener_name parameter. If this parameter is not configured and a user does not specify a fully qualified service name in the connect syntax, the connection attempt fails. This parameter only accepts one value.

      Example
      DEFAULT_SERVICE_LISTENER=sales.us.acme.com "

      1. Obtain and apply the interim patch for unpublished Bug 9271246 which will restore the functionality to pre-11g. If a patch does not exist for your platform, please request a backport from Oracle Support.

      2. As one example, use the host / service_name in the connect string:
      CONNECT username/password@host/service_name

      OR

      3. Configure the listener with a default service name as follows:
You need to add the following parameter to the listener.ora file for the 11g tns listener
      DEFAULT_SERVICE_listener_name= ( service_name )
where service_name is the target database name.
After these changes you need to restart the listener for the changes to take place.

Information in this document applies to any platform.

      Symptoms
In Financial Management (HFM) application , you may receive the following error message when attempting various HFM related operations such as Journal Entries, connecting via Smartview to HFM, or with Financial Reporting:

Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion.

An error has occurred. Please contact your administrator.
      Error Number:70
      Error Description:Permission denied
      Error Source:Microsoft VBScript runtime error
      Page On which Error Occurred:/hfm/loadextract/ExtractJournals.asp
      Changes
This issue occurs only in EPM systems deployed on Windows 2008 server, so if a OS upgrade had occurred, this error may be thrown.
      Cause
The identity user initially logged on to the server when the application launched. The issue happens when the identity user logs off and the COM+ application can no longer read registry keys in the profile of the identity user because of a new User Profile Service functionality of forcing the unload of the user profile on Windows 2008 when the user logs off.

      Solution
To resolve this issue, make the following change on all Financial Management servers in the environment:

      1.Run group policy editor (gpedit.msc)
2.Expand to: Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> UserProfiles -> Do not forcefully unload the user registry at user logoff
3.Check the settings and change it from “Not Configured” to “Enabled”
      4.Reboot the servers

      Goal

Back-up guidelines for backing up an Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Application where Internal back-up is not used or in version where it is not available.

Virus Scanning best practice for Hyperion Enterprise Applications.

      Solution
Best practices for backing up an Hyperion Enterprise Application
      Terminology
This article uses the term “Application Folder” (App Folder) to describe the Enterprise Database folder containing the Database files.
This is not the same as the “Software Folder” which contains the Executable code and associated DLL files etc.

Note : the App Folder may be a sub folder of the Software Folder, please be aware of this. The location of both these folders are user definable at install/app creation time.

The default Software Folder being C:\Progam files\Hyperion solutions\Hyperion Enterprise.

Application Name (APPNAME) this is the “name “ of a particular Enterprise Database created by the user..

To identify your Software Folder, search for the file Hypent.exe, your should only have one copy, resident in your Software Folder.

The App Folder contains the following files amongst other.

      APPNAME.EXA
      APPNAME.INI
      APPNAME.lok
      APPNAME.use

      It also has sub folders:

      \data
      \reports
      \inbox
      \outbox

The App folder is again user definable but, the above sub folders are the default sub folder names.

The Application folder is defined by the APPPATH parameter in your Hypent.ini under each [APPNAME] section. You will find the hypent.ini in the citrix home folder or user profile folder.

Note the hypent.ini may contain several Application defined by the appropriate [APPNAME] sections.

      Backing up the application

We do not recommend the use of software that will backup Enterprise files even if they are open. The common name for this process is "Open File Agent". The possibility for corrupting all or part of the database with files open during a backup process is too great.

Always back up your applications and data before and after you perform significant work on your applications. You should back up an application when
      you perform the following operations:

      •Install software upgrades.
      •Implement new applications.
      •Application Maintainance.

      •Run rollovers.
      •Conduct closings.
•Enter a large amount of data.
Develop a process for performing backups that is separate from network and corporate backup procedures. Network and corporate backup procedures might not consider your closing cycles and other aspects of your financial data.
You should schedule backups based on how much and how often your data changes.
You should be able to go back to any definitive point to evaluate your data. For example, if you conduct month-end closings, you should be able to access your month-end closing data from previous months or years.

Always ensure there are no users logged on to any Enterprise or Reporting module when the back-up starts.
Set a Back-Up Window (time) in which users know not to log on to the application while the back-up takes place.

An alternative that some clients use when there is no time when all users are out of the database would be to create an AutoPilot routine that extracts security, system, formulas, journals, and data for all categories daily or as often as needed. Then if you cannot get to a clean backup to restore an application, you have the means to rebuild the database. A further precaution would be to have two different routines that extract to different filenames. By running each on alternate days, you will be assured of good extracts no more than one or two days old. AutoPilot can also be used to build a new application.

Always back-up entire APP FOLDER never parts of APP FOLDER

Backup an Enterprise application using an AutoPilot taskflow

When creating the AutoPilot routine, the steps may look like this:

      1. Change Application.

Change from a local dummy application to the production application.
Log into the application with an admin account.

      2. Extract Security.
      3. Extract an Enterprise Application.
      4. Extract Logic.
      5. Change Category.
      6. Extract Enterprise data.

Use an entity list with all base entities.
Use an account list with all accounts.
      Include Global.

      7. Extract Journals.

      Include all periods.

      8. Change Category.
      9. Extract Enterprise data.
      10. Extract Journals.
      11. Repeat steps 8-10 for all categories.
      12. Copy reports from the Reports folder.

Use Execute File Management Commands and use the Copy function.

      13. Change Application.
      Change back to dummy application.

By changing from a local dummy application to the production app on the server, then back to it when done, any automated backup can still run without a user in the production application

Is it possible to create the application backup profile and the scheduling on a different server to where the application directory is located?
No, it is not possible to have the application backup profile and the scheduling on a different server to where the application files are located. It should be set up on the same server as the application directory.

Disconnect Citrix users from system before taking backups
We cannot recommend to use any kind of script to perform logout/disconnect before backup is taken.

We strongly advise NOT to use the 'kill' command to terminate Hyperion Enterprise sessions. This command has been known to cause issues with the software. It has resulted in clients having to reinstall software.

Below is a method that some clients are using to get users to logout before taking a backup:
      1. Prevent new logons (could be done through Citrix Metaframe).
      2. Prompt users to logout from the application several times (could be done through Citrix Metaframe).
      3. If users still in the system, a reboot would be preferred instead of the 'kill' command as the Operating System takes care of the disconnection in a milder way than the 'kill' command.

Test in a test environment first. Make sure that the routine minimizes the risk of users doing any changes to the system, data loads, consolidations, etc. when the disconnection is performed.

      Restoring the application

The entire database must be restored from the same backup tape.
We do not recommend partial restores under any circumstances. With a partial restore, there is a potential for internal signatures to no longer match causing data to be "lost".

Before restoring a back-up, ensure users are not logged in to any Enterprise module, Enterprise Reporting or any addons i.e Retrieve, Schedules, Dataextend.

When restoring you have the option to either overwrite the present app folder (suggest you clear it first). If you do overwrite the users will be able to connect to the restore with no changes needed.

If you restore to a new App Folder , the users will have to use the “Add Application” option at their logon screen to locate the restored folder and then add the restored application. When they do this, the reference to that particular application is overwritten with the new location within hypent.ini.

Note you can only have one instance of an APPNAME in your hypent.ini file at any one time.

When the users add an APPNAME that is already there, they get a message warning this will Overwrite the Application. It is only the link via the hypent.ini file that gets overwritten and not the Application itself.

Never restore partial applications. ALWAYS THE COMPLETE APP FOLDER.

If the software folder is damaged, run the install program again and select the REPAIR OPTION or run a complete re-install. If you restore a Software Folder form back-up you may run into file registration issues.

      Virus Scanning

The APP FOLDER should not be scanned live scanned for viruses.

Exclude the APP FOLDERS form live virus scanning.

Run a full scan over the APP FOLDERS daily when users are not active.

The danger is that the virus scanning software locks a file while scanning, and Enterprise cannot then lock the file itself.

Make sure users do not store office documents in the APP FOLDER as these can harbor viruses and need to be live scanned.

      Versions 6.5 and above

Enterprise version 6.5.x and 6,5,1.x include an internal back-up routine which does allow back-ups to be taken with active users.

This functionality was not available in earlier versions…

      Incremental Backups

Incremental backups are not recommended for Hyperion Enterprise applications.
The recommended method is to make a backup of the entire application folder including all subfolders whilst all users are logged out of the application
If it is not possible to ensure all users are logged out an application before performing a backup, consider upgrading to Enterprise 6.5 or later where backups can occur whilst users are logged into the application.

      Checked for relevance on 27-JUL-2011
      Goal
Are there any recommendations with regards to antivirus settings for the EPM System?

      Solution
The scanning executed by anti-virus software can be a source of performance issues with EPM System products. Each time a user accesses any resource on the server, anti-virus software will try to open the object and scan it. Typically when files are updated or accessed, anti-virus software will lock the object to scan the file.

The recommendation is for the HYPERION_HOME or MIDDLEWARE_HOME directories to be excluded from anti-virus software scans and only scanned on a scheduled basis while the EPM products are shutdown.

This information is documented in the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance
Management System Tips and Tricks from EPM System Infrastructure Development: Issues 1-72 which is accessible online:

•On your server, create a directory where the compressed files are going to be stored: (i.e. [Drive]:\EPM11R2_ZIPS )
•Download the files to the designated target directory.

What am I going to do with all the compressed files?

•Uncompress all the files, starting with the Installer, to a directory whose name does not contain any spaces. You could create a directory at the root level (i.e. C:\EPM11R2_Installer )
•When done, ensure that the "assemblies" directory is populated with the files you uncompressed.
How do I run the installer?

•To run the installer, go to the installer directory ( i.e. C:\EPM11R2_Installer ) and run the following command: installTool.cmd, this will start a console that will launch the Oracle Universal Installer.

What do I select during the installation?

•After you pass the initial panels, you can select the New Installation and the radio button "Chose components individually" This will give you the ability to select the components by product instead of by tier.
•For Essbase, check all the options that you would like to install.
      •Continue with the installation
What do I need to configure after the installation?

•You need to configure Shared Services (Foundation, EPMA and Calc Manager) and the Essbase products that you installed.
•Ensure that you have the Relational Database information ready before you start the configuration phase.
How can I test if Essbase is working?

•You could connect to the Essbase server via EAS, ESSCMD or MaxL to ensure that is fully operational.
•You could also check the Essbase.log and ensure that the correct initialization took place.

      \Program Files\Oracle\Inventory\logs
      C:\Users\\Oracle\oradiag_\diag\
      C:\Users\\.oracle\logs\

      (7) Some debug tools (*) can be activated if under http://:19000/workspace/index.jsp > Navigate > Administration > Workspace Server Settings > Client Debug Enabled: is set to Yes (then click 'OK' button, close all browser windows, and restart browser).

      Applies to:
Hyperion Financial Data Quality Management - Version: 11.1.2.0.00 and later [Release: 11.1 and later ]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

      Symptoms
After running the EPM system installer and rebooting the Windows 2008 server the machine is unreachable.

The 'Server' service (Lanman) is not running successfully.

The Server is a brand new server with the Operating System installed from scratch. The EPM System is installed using the installer. Following the installation the server is rebooted. When the reboot is complete, the connection to the server with RDP does not function.

Many windows services are not running (i.e Server service).

OS is Windows 2008 Standard x64 with SP2

      Cause

The Windows System File Checker was ran on the server following the installation. According to the logs generated from the file checker the 'atl.dll' file was corrupted. The atl.dll file is part of Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 (vc2005sp1) (a component of the EPM installer) and Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 (vc2008sp1) which was installed before the EPM installation process.

      Solution

In safe mode run the windows system file checker tool:

System File Checker gives an administrator the ability to scan all protected files to verify their versions. If System File Checker discovers that a protected file has been overwritten, it retrieves the correct version of the file from the cache folder (%Systemroot%\System32\Dllcache) or the Windows installation source files, and then replaces the incorrect file. System File Checker also checks and repopulates the cache folder.

You must be logged on as an administrator or as a member of the Administrators group to run System File Checker. If the cache folder becomes damaged or unusable, you can use the sfc /scannow, the sfc /scanonce, or the sfc /scanboot commands to repair its contents.

      System File Checker Tool Syntax
      Sfc [/Scannow] [/Scanonce] [/Scanboot] [/Revert] [/Purgecache] [/Cachesize=x]

/Scannow: Scans all protected system files immediately and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions. This command may require access to the Windows installation source files.

      Solution

      Applies to:

      Hyperion BI+ - Version: 11.1.2.1.000 and later [Release: 11.1 and later ]
      Hyperion Essbase - Version: 11.1.2.0.00 to 11.1.2.1.000 [Release: 11.1 to 11.1]
      Hyperion Planning - Version: 11.1.2.0.00 to 11.1.2.1.000 [Release: 11.1 to 11.1]
Information in this document applies to any platform.
      Goal

Identify the location of software inventories associated with Oracle EPM 11.1.2.1.
      Solution

It is important to know where installation inventory lists are stored: to detect the completeness of an install, to determine whether a patch has been applied, or to delete as part of a reinstall.
\Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1\oraInst.loc points to the location of the central inventory. oraInst.loc may have been installed in a previous Oracle install on Unix in: /var/opt/oracle or /etc or $HOME (of the user installing Oracle software), preventing the 'reinstall' of OHS or other software.

\Program Files\Oracle\Inventory is typically the location of the central inventory (despite the name 'central inventory', there may exist mutually exclusive inventories generated with the install of other Oracle products). On Unix/Linux the central inventory is in the installer's 'home' directory.

A local inventory is typically found in \Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1\.oracle.products

A local pointer (.oracle.instances) to the instance(s) set by EPM 11.1.2.0 and EPM 11.1.2.1 (and referenced by EPM 11.1.2.1 Installer for 'Apply Maintenance Release' option) is put in C:\Users\\ Ensure the same user installs both versions.

\Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1\.oracle.products is used to recreate an inventory if need be (but a regeneration of an inventory will exclude service fixes/patches installed via OPatch. To recreate an inventory after one is corrupted...run \Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1\OPatch\createInventory.bat.)

\Oracle\Middleware\ohs\.patch_storage (holds records of previous OPatches)

The compression/decompression utility should be capable of handling long file paths (a free utility which fulfills this requirement may be downloaded from http://www.7-zip.org)

Database clients (in a preferred 64-bit environment) should be installed in the order of 32-bit then 64-bit. Products which require 32-bit clients include Interactive Reporting and Financial Data Quality Management.
      Goal

Many applications can be installed in EPM 11.1.2.0 and EPM 11.1.2.1 environments. These require careful preparation to prevent installation and configuration failures. This article makes some best practice recommendations that will allow a new installation to be robust. The EPM 11.1.2.0 release did not offer upgrade or migration features, so many customers are expected to move up to and take advantage of the new features of EPM 11.1.2.1. In most cases customers who have production environments containing earlier versions of the Hyperion System 9 or Oracle EPM 11 families will need to and want to move to higher specification environments to meet the certification requirements of the environment of this set of products.
      Solution

      (1) GREENFIELD/CLEAN INSTALL
It is recommended to start with a clean install. An attempt to install on top of a pre-existing Hyperion System 9.2.1, 9.3.3, or 11.1.1.3 installation would likely lead to the loss of essential data and configuration files needed for moving to 11.1.2.1 while simultaneously disabling the prior version.

      (2) MICROSOFT WINDOWS VERSION
Earlier versions of Hyperion System 9 and Oracle Hyperion EPM 11.1.1.x were not certified against currently supported operating systems and databases so it is unlikely that they were installed in environments certified to work with EPM 11.1.2.1.

Since many of the applications of EPM 11.1.2.1 are 64-bit savvy and could benefit from the optimization features of Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 64-bit...that would be recommended.

      (3) COMPRESSION/DECOMPRESSION
As mentioned above, ensure that your compression/decompression utility will handle long file path names (greater than the 260 character Microsoft Windows path limitation).

      http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa365247%28VS.85%29.aspx#maxpath

      (4) TURN OFF MICROSOFT'S USER ACCOUNT CONTROL
UAC (Microsoft User Account Control) is a feature of Microsoft Vista and Windows 2008.

When the hyperlink is clicked, the next window should NOT have a check box checked.

The screen layout for Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 is:

      (5) ENSURE MEMORY AND CPU NUMBERS ARE ADEQUATE
If all Hyperion products that can be accessed via Oracle EPM Foundation 11.1.2.x were installed and activated it could easily require around 14 gigabytes or more of RAM. This pretty much eliminates consideration of a 32-bit install (where each machine can access at best 4 gigabytes of memory...and no less than 1 gigabyte of that would be for the operating system). The processing load for many separate Java virtual machines would also make it practical to have four or more CPUs. The memory and CPU requirements might be reduced somewhat if fewer applications or JVMs were run, but it would not be advisable to run even a test and development install with fewer than two CPUs and 8 gigabytes of RAM as there are around two dozen processes to support. Technical support is not equipped to estimate the actual production capacity of an environment...there are too many variables involved. It would be best to ramp up the system with actual processes and loads and project from that.

      (6) PREPARING DATABASE CLIENTS
The following applications require the installation of a full Oracle database client on the machines where they will be installed.

      Performance Management Architect Dimension server
      Financial Management application server
FDM Application Server and any machine that has FDM Workbench
      Strategic Finance
If an Oracle database is used, a full database client with Oracle Call Interface (Oracle 11.1.0.6 or later) must be installed. Ensure a Net Service Name/tnsnames.ora is configured for remote databases.

      (7) PREPARING DATABASE REPOSITORIES
A number of different relational database repositories must be prepared if their matching applications will be configured, preferably with different schema owners. Ideally the database will be on a separate stand alone server behind a firewall.
      CalcManager
      DisclosureManagement
      EnterprisePerformanceManagementArchitect
      ERPIntegrator
      Essbase
      FDM
      FinancialClose
      FinancialManagement
      PerformanceScorecard
      PlanningApplication
      PlanningSystem
      ProfitabilityAndCostManagement
      ReportingAndAnalysis
      SharedServices
      ORACLE DATABASE REPOSITORY:
Server versions supported include: Oracle 10.2.0.4+, 11.1.0.7+, or 11.2.0.1+
HFM, HSS, and/or EPMA instances require at least 1GB of RAM and Automatic Memory Management.
The database encoding should preferably be AL32UTF8 (UTF8 is fallback option) and NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS should be in order ',.' (confirm by running: SELECT * FROM NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS;)
Each EPM user must have the RESOURCE role and the CREATE SESSION and
      CREATE VIEW privileges.

Note that Oracle recommends a separate Oracle database instance and other specific adjustments to work with FDM.

Oracle Data Provider (ODP) for .NET 2.0 (from the Oracle Data Access Component (ODAC) package) is required and must be installed by a user with Windows administrator rights for the following products: FDM or Performance Management Architect Dimension Server.

      MICROSOFT SQL SERVER DATABASE REPOSITORY
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 is certified.
Run the following two commands against each database used by EPM:
      alter database set READ_COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT ON
      alter database set ALLOW_SNAPSHOT_ISOLATION ON

      IBM DB2 DATABASE REPOSITORY
      IBM DB2 9.7 FP3a+ is certified.
      (8) MICROSOFT INTERNET INFORMATION SERVER
For Microsoft Windows 2008 servers, ensure that IIS 7 is installed with IIS 6 compatibility features (needed for HFM). Ensure that ASP.NET has been installed as well. In Windows 2008: Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Server Manager (or use icon in tool-bar) > Roles Summary > click Add Roles > ...complete verifications... > On Select Server Roles screen select Web Server (IIS) > et cetera.
      (9) PREPARE A DOMAIN USER FOR INSTALL
The Microsoft Windows Services control panel should have a domain user with rights to start a service as the owner of each Oracle EPM service, so that user should be determined before installation.
      (10) CONFIGURE INTERNET EXPLORER 8 (if not using Firefox)
Internet Options > Security Settings tab > Custom level...
Allow script-initiated windows without size or position constraints (Enable)
Allow websites to open windows without address or status bar (Enable)

Internet Options > Security tab > Enable Protected Mode (Uncheck)

If multiple open windows are needed: http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=9391075
      (11) INSTALL A 32-BIT GNU (7.06) or AFPL (8.5.4 or 8.51or 8.14 ) GHOSTSCRIPT OR ADOBE ACROBAT DISTILLER (6.0 or 8.0)
This is needed for Oracle Hyperion Financial Report PDF output.

Enhanced display of charts (via Adobe SVG Viewer) is only possible when using Adobe Acrobat Distiller.
      (12) ENSURE THERE ARE NO SPACES IN THE INSTALL PATH

Information in this document applies to any platform.
      Symptoms

Having installed Hyperion products and changed the default admin password, how can I then get 'EPM System Diagnostics' to work correctly for the Essbase Java API? It currently produces:

      Test Status: FAILED

      Service: SVR: Essbase Java API

Description: Launch external checker with next command: D:\Hyperion\common\validation\9.5.0.0\launchEssbaseJavaAPI.bat EssbaseJAPIConnect admin ****** localhost Embedded
Error: Result: -1; Error message: Cannot connect to olap service. Cannot connect to Essbase Server at MG1VAPPP16. Timed out waiting to connect to the Essbase Agent/Server using TCP/IP. Check your network connections.
Recommended Action: Make sure external checker is working.
      Cause

This is a known issue and caused due to unpublished bug 8509441: EPM SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC REPORTS "FAILED" AFTER CHANGING ADMIN PASSWORD IN HSS (Fixed in Product Version 11.1.2.0.00 Product Version11.1.1.1.00)
Note: SDK checkers are additional checkers based on external checker API. It means all parameters are passing via vtconfig.xml file in core or encrypted (like should update vtconfig.xml with new encrypted value), but configtool includes SDK in 11.1.2.0 release.

      Solution

This issue is resolved in version 11.1.2.

      Workaround:
Apply these steps to encrypt the password with the encryptString.bat tool which is in the structure. Then, update the vtconfig file with the new encrypted password.

      Steps to apply:
      1. Open a command prompt and navigate to HYPERION_HOME/common/config/9.5.0.0 directory.
      2. Execute encryptString.bat using the newly changed password of the default admin user as the only parameter.
For example, if myPasswor12 is the new password, use the command:
      encryptString.bat myPasswor12
To encrypt it. The encrypted password appears in the command prompt window.

      3. Copy the encrypted password from the command prompt window.
      4. Using a text editor, open the vtconfig.xml file, this file is available in HYPERION_HOME\common\validation\9.5.0.0\vtconfig.xml
      5. Replace the existing password with the encrypted password that you copied in step 3.
      6. Save and close the file.

      Goal

If somehow you have lost the password for the system administrator user "root" you will need to reset it. This document provides a practical method to do that if you have configured system with the GRUB boot loader during the OS installation.
      Solution

It procedure is to boot the system in the "single user" mode and to be able to do that you must be on the system console. Please follow the steps below:

      1. Reboot the system
      2. When the GRUB menu is shown with list of kernels to boot or count down for boot kernel is seen immediately do the following.
      3. Use the arrow key and choose the kernel you want to boot
      4. Press key a to append kernel arguments before booting
      5. Next line will look something like this:
grub append> ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet
      6. At the end of the line press space bar once, then add text single or 1:
grub append> ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet single
      or
      grub append> ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet 1
      7. Then press enter/return, system will start to boot. The esc key will cancel your edit.

      8. This will bring you to a shell prompt and now you can use the passwd command to change the password for the "root" account:
      sh-3.00## passwd
      Changing password for user root.
      New UNIX password:
      ...
      ...
After the password is reset type
      # reboot
and after system has been completed booting you can logon with the new root password.

BUG 9800347 - CANNOT INSTALL OCM ON WINDOWS XP (NON-ENGLISH).

This was fixed in OCM 10.3.4 and 10.3.3.1. An older version (10.3.3.1) is in this kit.
      Solution
1- Proceed with the EPM installation and ignore the error from the step that configures OCM.
2- Retrieve version 10.3.4 of the OCM kit from My Oracle Support and install it in the EPM environment (use Patch 5567658 for windows 32-bit and select version 10.3.4),
3- The kit should be unzipped under C:\Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1. (this kit has only one ccr folder that should override the existing folder under EPMSystem11R1).
      4- Be sure to set the ORACLE_HOME and JAVA_HOME environment variables, i.e. set ORACLE_HOME=C:\Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1 & set JAVA_HOME=C:\Oracle\Middleware\jdk160_21.
5- Then run ccr\bin\setupCCR.exe and provide the credentials in response to the prompts.
6- After successful installation of the newer OCM version, run the EPM installer (installTools.cmd) and reinstall all your already installed components /products (this will reinstall the Common Components again).
7- Verify the Common Components are installed without errors at the final stage.

How to Verify EBS Setup for DrillBack to EBS in FDM [ID 780874.1]

How to Verify EBS Setup for DrillBack to EBS in FDM [ID 780874.1]

      Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Data Quality Management - Version: 11.1.1.0.00 to 11.1.1.1.00 - Release: 11.1 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.
      Goal

What is the process to verify that Oracle EBS is setup to allow FDM to drillback into EBS to view the source data that was loaded into FDM?

      Solution

The following steps can be performed against the EBS database to verify correct setup on the EBS side for FDM drillback functionality:

      1. Verify that all patches documented in the Financial Data Quality Management readme guide have been applied, and that the EBS middle tier has been restarted after the patches have been applied successfully by running the following query:

      select * from ad_bugs where bug_number = '(bugnumber)';

Oracle E-Business Suite Compatibility and Patches
The FDM drill-back feature supports Oracle E-Business Suite versions 11.5, 12.0.6, and 12.1.1. The following patches are required for Oracle E-Business Suite version 11.5:
      • 4396821 and 8307232 (replaces patch 6902648)
      Pre-requisite patches for patch 4396821:
      • 3262919 - Patch 11i.FWK.H
      • 2032040 - WORKFLOW 2.6 FOR APPLICATIONS 11i
      • 3180816 - Patch 11i.AD.I
      • 2917019 - New Profile Hierarchies: Security, Server and Organization
      • 3313291 - AOL JAVA ROLLUP PATCH J
The following patch is required Only for Oracle E-Business Suite version 12.0.6:
      • 8345468:R12.GL.A
Patches are available on the Oracle Support site.
There are no patches for R12.1.x onward.

These can be verified with the following query for EBS 11:

      SELECT * FROM AD_BUGS WHERE BUG_NUMBER IN ('4396821','8307232','3262919','2032040','3180816','2917019','3313291','8345468');

and the following query for EBS 12:

      SELECT * FROM AD_BUGS WHERE BUG_NUMBER = '8345468';

      2. Locate the proper function id to set in the source adapters option menu by running the following query:

      select function_id, function_name from fnd_form_functions
      where function_name = 'GLAADPAGE';

      3. Locate the proper responsibility_id to set in the source adapters option menu by running the following query:

      select RESPONSIBILITY_ID , RESPONSIBILITY_KEY , RESPONSIBILITY_NAME,
      MENU_ID
      from FND_RESPONSIBILITY_VL
      where RESPONSIBILITY_NAME like &responsibility_name;

The responsibility_name parameter is the responsibility name which is being
      used for the drillback functionality.

      4. Verify that for the menu_id returned in step #3, that the GLAADPAGE function is attached. The following query should be ran to verify this, it should return the menu id returned in step #3:

      select menu_id, menu_name from fnd_menus where
      menu_id in ( select c.menu_id from fnd_compiled_menu_functions c,
      fnd_form_functions f
      where c.function_id = f.function_id and
      f.function_name = 'GLAADPAGE' );

Information in this document applies to any platform.
      Symptoms

Virtual and private memory usage of the Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) application process HsvDatasource.exe, continues to increase over time.
      Cause

This issue is caused by a feature in the Oracle Provider for OLE DB client release 10.2 and later, called Statement Caching and how HFM uses its database connections. Unpublished BUG 6827563 has been submitted for this issue.

      Solution

To resolve the high memory usage enable Statement Caching, but set the configured value to a low setting. Recommended value is between 1 and 10. To implement this solution, edit the following value in Windows Registry on HFM application server:

      Key: Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Oracle\Key_Homename\Oledb
      Value Name: StmtCacheSize
      Value (decimal): 10
Where, Key_Homename refers to the appropriate Oracle home. After registry modification stop and restart the HFM application processes.

      Symptoms

When choosing Metadata > Control Tables within FDM end users receive the error "Unable to retrieve target system ". The control table would normally return a drop down list of target values from the HFM application.
      Cause

The environment contains two FDM application servers. In order for FDM to properly integrate with HFM on both application servers, the HFM adapter must be registered and configured on both application servers in the environment. Currently the adapter is only registered and configured on one of the two application servers.

      Solution

The adapters should be unzipped to the Adapters Components or the Shared Components folder on each server and then registered from there.
To register the adapter use the following steps
      1. Launch the FDM Workbench
      2. Select File-> Register Adapter
      3. Browse to the location of the adapter (see above) and select the appropriate file (upsFM11xG5*.dll)

      4. Right-Click on the adapter and choose "configure"

      5. Enter the FDM Service account username, password, confirm password, and domain and click OK to save the change.

      ***Checked for relevance on 07-FEB-2011***

The $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil directory or subdirectories of appsutil are missing.

How to recreate this directory with its subdirectories and contents?
How can I run AutoConfig on Database Tier without this directory, since adautocfg.sh exists in /appsutil/scripts/?

      Solution

To implement the solution, please update the RDBMS ORACLE_HOME file system with AutoConfig files from the AppsTier by performing the following steps exactly:

      1. On the Application Tier (as the APPLMGR user):

      2. Log in to the APPL_TOP environment and source the environment file

      3. Create appsutil.zip file: "perl /bin/admkappsutil.pl"
(This will create appsutil.zip in $APPL_TOP/admin/out/appsutil.zip)

      4. Copy or FTP the appsutil.zip file to the RDBMS $ORACLE_HOME

      5. On the Database Tier (as the ORACLE user):
      $ cd $ORACLE_HOME
      $ unzip -o appsutil.zip

      6. Generate the Database Context File:

      Context File Creation on UNIX

      $ cd $ORACLE_HOME

      $ . _.env

      $ cd $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin

      $ perl adbldxml.pl tier=db appsuser= appspasswd=

      $ cd $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin

      $ adconfig.sh contextfile= appspass=

After running the these steps, all files and directories for Autoconfig are now present, including "$ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin/adautocfg.sh" and the "$ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/scripts" directory.

      $ cd $ORACLE_HOME
      $ unzip -o appsutil.zip

      6. Generate the Database Context File:

      Context File Creation on UNIX

      $ cd $ORACLE_HOME

      $ . _.env

      $ cd $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin

      $ perl adbldxml.pl tier=db appsuser= appspasswd=

      $ cd $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin

      $ adconfig.sh contextfile= appspass=

After running the these steps, all files and directories for Autoconfig are now present, including "$ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin/adautocfg.sh" and the "$ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/scripts" directory.
